Expanding its problem gambling support resources, GamCare has announced that it will launch a dedicated online chat room session for women affected by gambling issues on Saturday 12 September (19:00-20:00 hrs).

The chatroom, which will be open to ‘those who identify as female’, forms part of GamCare’s ‘daily support sessions’ – a resource made available via the charity’s website allowing its users to connect with peers and share their experiences with one another.

GamCare launched its new support service after a report commissioned by GambleAware and NHS research underlined that women experiencing problem gambling harm felt deeper anxieties and stigma towards accessing treatment and help on addiction.

GamCare Supports Women Affected by Gambling

“Women can be disproportionately negatively impacted by gambling-related harm, which includes financial, relationship, and mental health issues. GamCare is running this session for any women who are affected by gambling, whether they are the gambler, or a family member or friend,” GamCare said in its statement.

To improve treatment access, GamCare will continue to develop its ‘Women’s Programme’ to help women affected by gambling harms secure the treatment they need.

Concluding its statement, GamCare stated that it continues to work with public and third-sector organizations on establishing a nationwide framework that can spread awareness of gambling harm and its many impacts on the widest demographic of women.

To join the chatroom when registered, visit gamcare.org.uk/get-support/group-chatroom/ on 12th September from 19:00 hrs.
